Are you a Doer or a Feeler?
Have you ever wondered why some people are so quick to take action towards their goals, while others seem to spend an eternity contemplating their every move? Or why some people are so decisive, while others seem to waffle back and forth endlessly? The answer may lie in the fundamental difference between “doers” and “feelers”.
Doers are the go-getters while feelers are the deep thinkers that quite often need time to process their emotions and carefully consider their decisions. Knowing which one you are can help you navigate life and and your health and fitness choices more effectively.
So, which one are you?
Are you a doer or a feeler? If you’re not sure, don’t worry as in this captivating blog, I’ll share with you my “Three Letter Formula” that you can use whenever you feel less of doer and more of a feeler in regards to your health and fitness.

“He didn’t feel like it.”
Once upon a time, there were two clients, Elisa and Mark. One day, Elisa and Mark decided they needed to get in better physical shape. They joined a gym and made plans to work out.
The next morning, Elisa saw that she was scheduled to work out, so that’s what she did. She got dressed early in the morning and went to the gym. She had a good work out and left feeling energised.
Mark on the other hand woke up and saw he was scheduled to meet Elisa at the gym. But he hadn’t slept that well and decided he didn’t feel like working out. So he didn’t.
The following day, Elisa and Mark decided they needed also to work on improving their diets, to eat more clean, whole foods and to cook healthier meals for themselves.
The next morning, Elisa remembered she had planned to go to the supermarket, and that’s what she did. She bought fruits, vegetables, lean protein, everything she needed to stay on course of the plan. She looked up a couple of recipes and that night cooked a wholesome, delicious meal for herself and her family.
Mark woke up and remembered he was supposed to meet Elisa at the supermarket, but he didn’t feel like the hassle of food shopping. So he didn’t. That night, Mark treated himself and his family to Chinese takeway.
On another day, Elisa and Mark agreed that they needed to get their sleep right to support the training plan. They decided to go to bed early so that they could better manage their energy levels.
That same night, Elisa had set the alarm to remind her of bed time, and so that’s what she did. Mark instead, despite Elisa’s text as a reminder at dinner time , stayed up watching his net-flix last episode of his favourite soap opera. So he didn’t go to bed until midnight.
Do-er or Feel-er?
Are you starting to see a pattern in the behaviour of our two friends? One accomplishes the things she’s set out to do, regardless of how she feels. The other only does things when he feels like it. Which brings me to this question: Are you a doer or a feeler?
You get to choose
Consider these three letters: A.I.F. which stands for — Action → Feelings → Identity.
But the problem is that most of us go about them instead in this order F.A.I. — Feelings, → Action → Identity. We basically act on how we feel first and then we take our identity from our behaviour as a consequence.
However, if that’s how you approach life, you sadly have those three letters backwards and should instead…
Begin by asking: ‘Who am I going to be? Then . . .
What action would this person take?
And last…
And here comes the part that’s so simple that easily gets missed:
The way you ACT will eventually shape the way you FEEL. . .
Got it?
So in a nutshell the more control you develop over your behaviour and actions, the more chance you have of feeling better and producing a self you can truly be proud of.
Conclusions
As you can see we can use our behaviour to beckon desirable feelings and reduce the influence of undesirable ones. Just like in the case Elisa and Mark.
So this Christmas in case you have too much to drink and eat, be a do-er! Hit the gym, go for a walk, do the stretches and the good feelings will simply follow.
Remember — A.I.F. — Action → Feelings → Identity. And if you don’t feel like it? In the words of Nike “just do it” anyway. You will feel much better, I promise!
