Energy boosters vs Energy drainers. What are yours?

Imagine if you could have more mental and physical energy at you disposal than you have right now. How great would it be?

Maybe you even exercise and you do your best to lead a healthy life style, nevertheless you still need your many shots of espresso to keep you going through the day. Or maybe you are well aware that something must be done to improve it, but you simply don’t know how and what else you can do to help it.

Whatever the reasons, if this is something that you would like to change and improve, I would like to share a very simple, yet powerful exercise that I believe can really help you raise your awareness on what energises and what drains you.

The reality

The sad reality is that we all get only a limited amount of energy p/day and once this energy is gone we end up as dead as a used up Duracell battery.

Yes sleeping helps, yes exercising and choosing to eat the right foods help too, however what’s most impactful is finding out what exactly energises you and what drains you.

Otherwise, you will be exhausted even before you begin your day and end up wasting your little precious energy left as well as your time in nothing productive.

What is the solution then?

Well, I invite to do the following exercise. It takes no more than five minutes and it’s great in raising your awareness what energises and what drains you.

Grab an piece of A4 paper and divide it in half. On one side you write down E-Booster and on the other half E-Drainer. Make a list of everything on each side. To help you, here’s mine:

E-Booster List

Sunlight and being outdoors in nature
Fresh air
Exercise and daily movement
Being connected with family and friends
Learning new skills
Cooking healthy whole foods
Meditate and take daily short breaks
Consistent sleep pattern
Journaling
Reading a good book on my sofa, feet up
Listening to music (and sometimes even dancing)
A clean and organised environment
Future planning and visualising
Watching short comedy videos
Laugh (life’s too short to be upset)
Hugs
Discovering new things, places and people
Learning something new every day
Wins and progress
Watching my pet asleep
And much more…

E-Drainer List

Fake politics
The news
Dealing with difficult personalities
Complaining
Arguing
Mess and cluttered environments
Waiting in service or checkout lines
Dealing with bureaucracy
Bad manners
Poor service
Lack of respect
Alcohol
Negative self talk
Blaming
Gossipping
Sleeping late and staying late
Not moving
Poor food choices
Too much social screen time
Wasting life time in futile activities
And the list could go on and on…

Sometimes energy drains are obvious, like a toxic relationship or watching the news, but other times energy drains can simply be distractions that you might not even be aware are taking you off course.

Conclusions

So if you would like to have more physical and mental energy at your disposal and be able to maintain it, here’s a challenge I invite you to take this week and actually for the whole month:

“Make this list and stick it to your fridge where you can see it. Read it every single day (morning and evening) and commit to take the necessary steps to align your energy to what matters most in your life”.

Now…

I’m guessing two kinds of people are reading this. Do-ers or dabblers. The dabblers love to sit down, read and even listen, but they rarely ever do anything and often look for an excuse not to move forward.

Some of you are do-ers instead. You’re not too sure how this is going to work for you, but you see how it’s worked for me and many of the clients I coach and have faith that it can and will also work for you.

What I have noticed is that it’s the do-ers who get ahead in life and get the results they are after, while the dabblers don’t ever really seem to ever progress.

The question is, which one are you?

Ps: If this post gave you a jolt, follow me. I write to inspire, educate and empower you (and your batteries) every month to be your healthiest, strongest, best version you can possibly be.

As always to your success and super health.
